2016 was, in some ways, inevitable.
There may or may not have been voting machine shenanigans (as I said, we'll likely never be able to be all that confident about the accuracy of tallies emerging from net-linked digital voting machines), but Trump's victory didn't surprise me in the least. The mainstream (DNC) Democratic Party had its finger on the scale for Hillary Clinton in the primaries, and ensured the nomination of one of the least-popular, most polarizing candidates in recent memory. She wasn't just disliked by a significant chunk of the US socio-political right, she was downright hated...the sort of deep unpopularity that greatly motivates people to vote (for someone else). They nominated practically the only candidate that could have lost that election. The Democratic Party is American liberalism's worst enemy. I don't particularly suspect 2024 was rigged, at least nothing beyond my general skepticism regarding the machines. There are some oddities/anomalies regarding battleground state polling trend timelines and Election Day performance vs. less-contended states, but IMO not enough to constitute a red flag. With Biden belatedly conceding that he would not be capable of fulfilling the duties office were he to be reelected, the Democrats had to run the incumbent VP, who I do not believe would have emerged the winner from a primary campaign. Like Justice Ginsberg, Biden held on too long, with similarly disastrous results.
