Over the course of history, human beings have risked everything to escape the tyrannical rule of “leaders” who would suppress freedom for the false promise of security. A wall was built in post WWII Germany to keep freedom-seeking people from escaping the horrors of Soviet-style socialism. Thousands of Cubans died in home-made boats fleeing the despotic Castro regime.

And now the socialists are back. Sanders, AOC, Mayors Mamdani and Wilson, and even some nut job with a Nazi tattoo seeking a Senate seat in Maine are ignoring history and seeking to buy votes by promising free stuff on their way to power. They use absurd rhetoric like “home ownership is racist” and “the rich are evil” to convince the gullible that socialism is some kind of utopian paradise.

The good news is that even today in America, people are escaping states which have adopted job-killing policies and excessive taxation to states which allow you to keep more of what you earn and are friendly to free and voluntary exchange that allows businesses to create vale for customers and employees.

In the meantime, it is sad to watch great cities like New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles deteriorate before our very eyes. Ignorance of history can be painful and unfortunately the pain is greatest for the gullible voters who will gladly forfeit freedom for the false hope of a failed concept that has already been tried with disastrous results over the course of time.
