That said, his politics and personal life appear shambolic. He's done numerous things over the years that others likely would have gone to prison for (I'm speaking primarily of his run-ins with the SEC and the Justice Dept.). He seems another one of the hyper-wealthy that gets away with most things.
The whole Twitter transaction boiled down to an offer so great the shareholders/board just couldn't turn it down. A 38% premium on the stock price is tough to walk away from, no matter how much moral high-ground you have to stand on.
In light of his "free speech" comments, I expect the worse once he gains control. Still needs to get government approval for the deal, which I can't imagine he won't get.
