With a broader brush, there was an author of mostly supermarket mystery fiction by name of Lawrence Sanders. A former girlfriend just devoured everything he wrote, and convinced me to read one of them. She said "this one is a bit different from the usual." It was a future dystopia thing called The Tomorrow File, written in the seventies and, looking back at it now, scary in its prescience.
I don't want to read it again. Grin!
