A world in which they never left their rooms and lived life plugged into their PCs though I'm very vague re the detail.
I see it even at my local sports centre where the young instructors, as soon as there is a time out in what ever activity they are taking, whip out the old smartphone and spend the following seconds furiously texting and swiping the screen.
I'm reminded of a skit by the late Bill Hicks concerning him being in a roadside cafe reading a book. A waitress approaches and asks "what ya doing?" When he replies "reading a book" a local red-neck stands up and yells... "well looky here we got us a reader!"
I envisage a time when people such as ourselves, with the mindset we possess, will be found scurrying down lonely back alleys, to knock on a setback door and have a disembodied voice say " Who are you?" to which we reply (sotto voce) "We're speakers, ho and one reader if that's ok?"
The door to this dystopian speak-easy slowly opens to reveal like minded folk having conversations, debates, and indulging in general intercourse with one another. When this is done they then retire to their respective abodes reflective and happy with the days discourse which happens so rarely now yet sad in the knowledge that a great swath of the members of this "New-world" find them somewhat odd and regard them as new-world pariahs.
As Anthony Newley once said.
Stop the world I- Ah you know he rest.
