One morning I was just about to head to work as Memsahib, who had just arisen, said there was a big moth flying around the front room. It wasn't a moth but a bat. She went a little wobbly at that point, so I set her to shutting all the interior doors and fetching me a sheet. The idea was to open up the inside side-porch door and steer the little beggar by holding up the sheet. I figured I could herd him out on the side porch, shut the door behind, then go around and open the outside door to let him back out where he belonged.
It actually was working pretty well until the bat sensed the stairwell going up to the upper floor; he ceased orbiting, took a hard right, and shot up the stairs.
Now, Chief had been sitting on the staircase quietly observing this exercise not without some disdain. As the bat passed him, without even getting up from the cat-loaf/library lion pose, he calmly reached up and swatted him back down the stairs. The bat was then easily caught, picked up off the floor of the foyer (they need to drop off a wall or a tree in order to take off; can't do it off the ground) and released out of doors.
And Chief calmly headed into the kitchen for his breakfast. No big deal...
