I don't find that funny or clever, its just dumb.
I have had a few goes at good ones, but they just don't do anything for me. My wife and my late son especially loved to play games of all sorts but the only kind that get me interested are the simple ones such as the Spectrum can play. Ladders and levels kind of thing.
I think the disappointment began with the original MYST which left me disappointed that all the beautiful scenery should be so pointless! Who in their right mind would ever behave the way these games expect you to react?
In fact I was going to make a game using my Next with the help of my son before he died of liver failure and I still have tons of the scripting and pictures that I had hoped the Next would be able to handle thanks to its memory and speed improvements.
Daniel and I often had fierce friendly arguments over the assumptions of game creators and my wish was to create a game that would only reward ethical behaviour and punish dishonest or unethical behaviour.
I told him that I want a game that is like reading a childrens adventure story (EG: Swallows and Amazons) where the player can simply explore the settings but they contain the potential for rewarding curiousity and intelligence.
So. for example, you the player might come across a sail boat that was yours to use if you wanted but you'd better be ready to learn how to sail or else get soaked (not drowned because an old sailor advises you to wear a life jacket when you ask if its okay to borrow his boat)
Of course it would be impossible to cram all this into one program but I intended to seralize it and make it available on a step by step basis.
