Most famous for taking up the Dumbledore role in the Potter films after Richard Harris' death and making it his own, of course.
I remember him as much for nearly rolling a car on Top Gear and having the corner on the track where he did so named after him.
He was a delightful liar in interviews, just for the fun of it. I remember him saying he really never understood a thing that was going on when filming the Potter films, just did his thing and waited for the edit to see just what in the hell the film was about. That one I might actually believe but you just never knew.
Along with that a very accomplished stage actor, yet also a trained engineer. He collected old machine tools.
My kind of man, just seemed to enjoy life and everything he did. Just didn't quite take the whole journey 100% seriously.
