When Caledonia was young, she used to climb the tree, re-arrange the branches into a nest, and sleep in it.
The new tree is more dense and she (like me) is a bit older and larger. We also split The Trainasium into two cat-trees, one placed in the kitchen window and the other at the bottom of the stairs, so she and the entire pride have preferable places to watch out the window and sleep at altitude. Seems to have taken care of the cat-in-the-tree issue, at least it has for the last several years.
Memsahib grew up in a suburban DC Metro household where the decoration began on Thanksgiving afternoon and artificial trees were quickly embraced, so the monthlong decoration is her norm. Since I walked into this marriage without strong positive feelings about it, she is in charge.
I have to give her great thanks, for she really brought joy to the season for me and for our family. She helped immensely with my attitude, and I have kept the positive things from my youth whilst shedding the anger (my mother could destroy anything not about her) that so overshadowed any of those pleasant memories. It was from there we have created our own family joys and traditions, and all credit to the Lady of the Manor. I do dearly love that woman!
