2) It wasn't clear he was going to get out due to the winter storm that visited here at the same time as his passage through the airport. The drive was a bit interesting even though we left early to stay ahead of the brunt of it. Even then, as a precaution we booked a room for him at the airport hotel in case they cancelled. As it turned out, he left an hour late but he did get out, so all worked out in the end.
3) I might be at the end of my association with small two-seat cars as my lower spine, indeed all of it, gets more and more inflexible and arthritic. I now find it impossible to get out of the Midget with any dignity as I can't pull my legs up to clear the a-pillar while still seated. The door opening in that one is very short fore-and-aft.
The Spit is better, but at my limits. On that one, clearing my head whilst nodding out from under the roof is getting difficult. I can currently retain my dignity with the MGB as it is a larger car, but then there is the chore of standing after I'm clear.
I've finally parted the fog of medical-administration-empowering process and have a visit coming with my dear friend the physical therapist, the one who understands spinal compression injuries and old paras. The goal is to see what is possible to regain some range of motion in the spine, then craft a supervised exercise programme to my situation so as to strengthen a few things while dropping a stone or two, unwinding that vicious cycle of excess weight on a spine that won't let me work off some excess weight on a spine that won't let me work off the excess weight &c &c.
I know the day is coming when all I can do is look at these cars, but we'll see how this goes in putting off that day. If this exercise is unsuccessful over this winter, I intend to start shifting them in the spring when people are more likely to buy open cars.
