No really I can thoroughly relate to that painful post as I now have to admit that I've ridden my last motorbike.
Talking of which and apropos of the 'run flat' series of posts, including regular maintenance versus idiot lights - why do you think they call them that? I prefer to have a dashboard with oil pressure gauge, ammeter, water temperature and even so I'd never forgo the weekly check list of battery acid, radiator level, oil level, tyre pressures etc. etc. and be and feel safer for knowing how my vehicle was running.
No amount of clever technological gadgetry can suspend the laws of physics as I told my son when I deliberately demonstrated to him how all could go tits up on black ice - frightened myself nearly as much as him when my skid control didnt work as well as it should.
However whats really bloody dangerous is all this anti lock and automatic everything now regularly fitted to motorbikes. Its an invitation for the idiots to kill themselves by being blithely unaware of how perilous a machine a motorbike can be. If you don't check your chain tension, spoke tension, cable ends you are an accident waiting to happen and the usual stuff goes without saying, oil levels, clutch adjustment, tappets, etc.
