"It's been four days already Timmy and I must confess that I'm very weary with all these revelations about a past with which we dwarves are unfamiliar. It has always been the elves that took an interest in record keeping, indeed they seem to be preoccupied with their poetry and songs that recount their past." said Garm with a weary sigh as the two of them made themselves comfortable for the night.
"I want to learn all that I can about their ideas of Light and Dark being opposing forces that are derived from the world entity itself." answered Timmy "because I believe that island held something very sinister and it was only sheer luck..."
"Or the intervention of the Light" interjected Garm
"Well yes but as I was about to say, we may have been manipulated from the word go. Ever since I accidentally crossed and then discovered about the existence of the Barrier, I had the feeling that I was being led gently but firmly until I met you and your clan. I don't think that it was an accident that I came with my journals and sketchbooks, even the small model that I used to show you how a simple water powered mechanism could solve your fabric processing and general laundy difficulties."
Their talk went on into the night until exhaustion claimed them but when the dawn arose Tim left Garm to sleep in peace whilst he returned to his lessons from Liet, having previously suggested that the dwarf need not persist in being brow beaten with facts that he couldn't really follow.
Liet was greatly relieved to see Tim return alone because he knew the boy could absorb more information without requiring needless explanations. "Let us continue, Timmy" said Liet "and I respect your companion's desire to hear no more because this is not a subject that is dear to dwarven hearts. They are loyal, trustworthy and intelligent tool users who have little patience with ideas that have no practical use. Its your mechanical abilities that have drawn Garm towards following your example but I fear he has absorbed all that I could give him.
Now I know that its the dangers of the Dark forces that make you interested in learning all that you can because staying clear of them requires a sense of intuition, the Light on the other hand is almost impossible to detect by normal folk but according to my towers instruments you are not human but half human half fey and that in itself raises some very interesting questions that only you can follow since we the true fey are ubable to cross the barrier. So I need to hear more from you about your past, in the hope it provides me with clues that might aid you in discovering your antecedents.
