I run a Linux machine as well as my windows device and as an operating system it's come on leaps and bounds.
One saving race of Linux is that it doesn't in the main require a muscle machine to run it and can run quite happily on older lower spec devices thus negating the need to splash out on a new computer just to pander to Microcraps whims.
There are many flavours of Linux out there and my weapon of choice goes under the name of Ubuntu which unlike windows doesn't need gigabytes of ram or a super fast CPU just to run the bloody operating system.
The only turn off for some is the level of geekiness required to get it up and running as there can be a fair degree of command line gubbins when installing and upgrading etc and it has an annoying need for you to type in a password whenever you want to alter something but other than that it's worth its rations in my opinion.
