...or are they (in the Potter books) human like the rest of us?

I know of no-one (especially me) who I would regard with the adulation due someone who was 100% good, wise, likeable.

I've made many bad decisions, misjudged character, done bad shit. Why would I expect fictional characters to be anything other than flawed? To me, that might make Rowling's series the (flash-in-the-pan) bit of genius it was. The characters are flawed as deeply as I am, none are perfect, a few are likeable perhaps.

My heroes are deeply flawed and their lives more cases of getting up after a fall rather than a god-like ascendency; Churchill, Truman, Monty, Patton, Park, the list is endless, just as the list of the perfect, those without jealousies, anger, grudges, is vacant.

Perhaps you expect too much?
