I have to say the American system is beyond hypocritical, yes.

On the one hand they have this intense Judeo-Christian "ethic" of requiring one to live as long as possible no matter the quality of life, yet on the other hand they make that pursuit a matter of giving one's soul and wallet to a for-profit industry.

It's just medieval in so many ways.
