My Ancient Greek teacher in College and her husband, an Ancient History professor, went to Greece many times. Once they were hiking in the mountains and came to a village, where people were a little put off at first by her blondness - until she assured them she was Scottish-American. Then everyone was happy, and they broke out the cold beer.
In the '70s they still didn't like German tourists much, though.
