Ohio Senate Bill 1 goes into effect Friday. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed S.B. 1 into law on March 28 after it quickly passed the House and Senate earlier this year. S.B. 1 creates post-tenure reviews, puts diversity scholarships at risk, sets rules around classroom discussion, and creates a retrenchment provision that blocks unions from negotiating on tenure, among other things. The law affects Ohio’s public universities and community colleges. Higher education institutions have already been feeling the effects of the law before it’s even gone into effect.The new law is making things more difficult for faculty and administrators, said University of Cincinnati American Association of University Professors President Stephen Mockabee. “We’re spending time figuring out how to comply with all these state mandates, rather than focusing on research and teaching,” he said. The biggest short term effect higher education institutions are seeing from S.B. 1 having a hard time attracting quality candidates — ranging from full-time faculty to graduate student positions, said Sara Kilpatrick, executive director of the Ohio Conference of AAUP. “We are seeing to a very high degree people withdrawing their name from consideration if they did apply for a position in Ohio,” she said. “I’m hearing this on a regular basis from people that are involved in those search processes.” RESIST! -greenman

His book about crisis of US public education used a fictitious, non existent school district in Fairfax Virginia as the best practice model. He was the worst Secretary of Education until the felon's two appointments. Who was worse? Voss or what's her name? While law protects the felon's scholastic records, much can be learned by examination of the history. The felon never attended a public school beyond first grade, where his behavior was so beyond control, he was a prime candidate for EBD curriculum. He was enrolled in an expensive private military academy for boys, which did very little to educate or prepare him. Private schools look the other way for 'full pays,' and produce glowing reports of progress for parents that are usually untrue. He passed through school uncorrected. He graduated academically and behaviorally retarded. That's why he flunked out of Fordham in his first try to evade the draft. He went to Penn and Wharton where his achievement and accomplishment was so remarkable, nobody remembers him. Its why we have now as POTUS, and why his goal is to eliminate the US Department of Education specifically because it oversees the special education program, which if he had available as a developmental model, would result in a different person from the lying mess we see and suffer now. Private schools have absolute minimum to no special education curricula because law doesn't mandate they do. The felon is an emotionally and behaviorally disturbed person now, as an adult. He is what SPED grows up to be like without any kind of intervention. You can look away from a painting, but you can't listen away from a symphony
