Our house here has sold. We are now just waiting on our permits. We close on our sale here on Aug 8. If our permits have not come by then, we will be in limbo, probably having to buy local and give up on trying to get somewhere safe.
And yes, after all the stuff that has been happening, my family doesn't think it is safe to be here anymore.
If we get our permits in the next few days, we have everything in place in Canada. We just have to choose a house and get closed THERE as soon as possible. We can stay in a hotel for a bit if we have to.
Do you know anyone or have relatives in Canada who would vouch for you? Hopefully the permits will come soon! It must be quite an ordeal to go through the whole process, but it sounds like you are almost there or will be soon.
I am still hoping that we will somehow come through this insane time, but Trump and a great many in the Republican party would have to go first. Still hoping....

We hired an immigration consultant company. We discussed our options with them - and it turns out that countries don't generally want old people to immigrate to them.
So, we got creative. The age restrictions generally don't apply when you are trying to come to Canada to go to school there. So, my wife applied and was accepted at a university.
We applied to move with her, so if her student permit is granted, I will get a visitor permit, and my daughter will get a permit (I think it is visitor, as well).
Because my job is remote, not only can I continue to work on my visitor permit, but I don't have to pay Canadian tax on that income.
After my wife has done her 4 years of university, and my daughter has done her entire high school in Canada, we will have to see about staying longer.
If my wife and I can't, we are hoping that our daughter can.
But, a lot can change in 4 years.
We will see.

If you never ask or you never try you will never get a yes.
Creativity is always required.
If you've ever had to spend a lot of time with a toddler you know creativity is definitely key to success. It seems certain that having that experience is necessary to navigate national and international bureaucracy.
It seems you are qualified and can pivot from cutting sandwich shapes and portions to potential flavor variations. Hopefully it won't be a toddler existential breakdown of reality where it's obviously synesthesia and/or sociopath/psychopath and possible narcissistic tendencies.
Hopefully we can pass this off as growing pains eh?
live long and prosper as best you can Jacque
Welcome to a great country

Be careful on your tax situation. Canada taxes on the basis of residency. As long as you are a resident of Canada, you must declare, and pay the appropriate tax on all income worldwide, regardless of source.
Since you won't be able to declare residency anywhere else, the default will be that you are a Canadian resident.
The University has expert assistance for international students. They looked into this for us and told us it was the case.
They said because I would be a visitor, technically, it would work out that way. If we stay, that will change.
I'm not really worried about it either way. We'll make sure.

Bet there will be many more, if there aren't already.
Does Canada have anything like the Einstein visa, for people with extraordinaty abilities? You can look away from a painting, but you can't listen away from a symphony
Canada has a lot of different options for immigration. I would boil it down to you either need to be rich or you need to be young or you need to have something that the province finds useful. Combinations of those things help.
