They let me go home TODAY!! Posted by Sia on January 24, 2026, 6:53 pm ADMIN I guess they were looking at releasing me on Monday, but this big storm coming is going to seriously mess up tomorrow and this coming week so they decided that one more day of PT and OT when I'm doing so well and stabilized now was unnecessary. So, here I am, home after 53 days away! 22 of them in hospital and 31 days in 2 different rehabs. First one more like a nursing home with very little PT or OT (like 30 minutes a day because i was too fragile then) for 13 days to get me out of bed and using a walker and then 18 days in acute rehab with a minimum of 3 hours of PT & OT daily using walker and cane depending on the rehab I was doing. I had to do 3 stairs (which was quite difficult at first, I'm still sketchy on them). Walking daily to increase to 150 feet with walker before resting. All kinds of work on parallel bars and focus on legs getting stronger and so much more. OT focused on getting me in and out of bed safely, showering safely, strengthening my arms and helping me with RA issues complicating everything and so much more. Glad to be home! Figuring out where to park myself after an hour long car ride.

I spent Christmas and New Years in the crappy rehab where, on Christmas, family members tried to make things cheery, but it was totally not the same and New Years all alone because of hateful weather. I was not at all close to home and further from my kids and grandkids than usual. They came twice. It was a LONG haul and took up the entire day when they onky have 1 day a week where neither J or B are working and K was on long surgical shifts and over 3 hours away... one way. My sisters made it once, but they came from MA, even further away! So, I'm blessed to FINALLY be home in a warm house with my husband and closer to the kids, but who obviously couldn't come THIS weekend. Speaking of the storm, he just went outside to do another plow of driveway with the backhoe with plow attachment. 700 yards is a long driveway and a sh*tload of snow. The "snow bankens" are already higher than me along the driveway and surely the roads! It's hateful out there.

ADMIN specific exercises they've given me until I start outpatient therapy in mid February. It is great being home, for sure, but the "call button" is not here to summon help for anything that comes up or something I want. My husband helps me, of course, but it would be unreasonable to call for him or text him if hes out of hearing range to come fetch me stuff all the time.

It's not unreasonable to ask for help in a situation like this. In my house we have set up call/monitoring setups when someone needed extra assistance. Most of the time we have a walkie talkie call system. It helps with prioritizing the call. Yes personalizations with ringtones and text notifications are cool but a chirping from a walkie talkie alerts you differently. But a good yell can be effective too. live long and prosper as best you can. Jacque "Jack of all trades is master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one." ... And thanks for masters in skill for a standard of work to instill.

ADMIN My house is rather large and he is kinda deaf but refuses to admit it or wear hearing aides. Plus, I am quite soft spoken. When I yell, practically no one hears me unless they are not very far away abd even then, it's basically noise blown away in the wind. LOL What I meant was that I could call a nurse or aide for everything, had to for much of my time in tge last 2 months. Even then, I often saved up a group of things I wanted or needed before calling because I detest prima donas who delight in having other people at their beck and call. He has things he's doing too and I MUST get up to walk and move as much as possible or I'll lose tge independence and skills I worked so hard for so I could go home. Trust me, I have to ask for so much help that im not unwilling to ask for it. Just unwilling to abuse it or lose what I've gained.

In fact, I'm trying to type right now with both hands, but it's a bit painful. Still have to get this temporary cast off and a new one put on, but am hoping maybe they will give a brace or something that I can put on and off. I felt bad when hb's dad finally went into a facility his last few months, because I know he didn't get that good of service there when he pushed the button. It got to the point though where we just couldn't lift him up and down anymore to use the toilet. He was a big guy.

Hb is going skiing without me this year... just him and our daughter. They already had bought their passes, so... They are better skiers than me anyway. I just hope they don't get too cocky and end up breaking something, too. Then we would be in a real mess! I hope I can manage on my own for a few days.
