6:15pm and had to pop out to post a letter in the monsoon . Better half's car has a standard 1 foot long plastic whip aerial compared to the 3 foot one on my car and 648 was a usable signal. Kev ![]() Afternoon Ian - Yes, it's one in the eye for those "Experts", who used to say, you would hardly tell the difference, between 1, 5 & 10 KW. OK it is a different situation for me than you, as I'm in West Suffolk. (in the car) I notice much less noise from the overhead phone & power lines, than when it was on low power. Once in the country, I notice very little difference. When I visit Gloucestershire, I really notice the difference - similar to yourself, with the added splatter from BBC5 in Droitwich - You can see the splatter on the Wooferton SDR, much the same on the Pullem Market SDR with the BBC5 TX near Norwich. It's amazing how the BBC get away with it - & they griped about Caroline's 963 splatter, in the early 1980s Anyway - time for Sunday Tea ![]() You can really tell a power variation when you live some distance from the source. So, I am 200 miles or so from Orford Ness and just out in the car there at 4pm, the signal was more than anorak quality. As I have mentioned before, I only use 648 when I am mobile, but that was easily listenable today here in North Yorks. That extra couple of kilowatts makes a difference for me. I don't normally listen to Dave Foster, but he just happened to be on and played something I had never heard before, that being the Beatles version of How do you do it. Never knew it existed! The beauty of Caroline! |
