I was never a fan as his type of radio never really appealed to me. I heard better and easier on the ear versions of the Zoo format in Dublin in the mid 80s.
However, there is no doubt he was a radio man rather than a TV wannabe. Very different from today’s presenters.

There are references to his listening to the 70s offshore stations and wanting to work on Steve England's version of Radio Atlantis in 1974 as well as using Man of Action as a backing track on Radio 210 from 1976.
OK, his zoo act was only unique to a UK audience, taking ideas and inspiration from the likes of Scott Shannon, but he really loved and breathed radio. It wasn't a fame trip, as Ronan might have said. At this time I feel sorry for his dad.
What sad news --I also loved his shows .
