Who Was Frederick McKinley Jones(photo below) born in 1893 died in 1961?
Les, Jones landed in Hallock, Minnesota, in 1912, looking for a job where he obtained a job doing mechanical work on a farm.
And later in life by the time he was 20, Jones was able to secure an engineering license in Minnesota before going to world war I where he served.
After the war, he invented an automatic refrigeration system for long haul trucks and railroad cars. One of the most prolific African-American inventors ever, Jones patented more than 60 inventions in his lifetime. Before Jones invention, foods were kept cool on ice during transport, a flawed system that resulted in many perishable foods spoiling before reaching their final destination. The Peoria City/County Health Department celebrates Mr. Jones for his contributions to food safety.
