Thanks so much for posting this gm. I knew Joe personally. I drove him from Madison to Milwaukee back in 88 0r 89 to play a fund raiser for our Central America organization and the Vietnam Vets against the war. The dude was all working class throughout his heart and soul. He took a nap on my couch at my apartment before he played at our fund raiser. We stopped at a restaurant and had a burger and some fries. He was a Navy Vet and loved talking about the military and veterans. He joined up at 17- years-old and I at 18. His parents were both Communist party members and he got the country Joe name after country Joe Stalin, no joke. May he RIP.

LOL... GM got to know his anti-Vietnam theme song because his brother would annoy his household by always singing it. Years later he realized his brother had the lyrics all confused. Gosh!
The wicked one has claimed Country Joe McDonald at the age of 84..
He popularized the anti-Vietnam song 'What are we fighting for' - that's how we called it in the islands at the time, but it's official title was "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin-to-Die" etc.
Man, we are losing so many 60s warriors..
MAY COUNTRY JOE McDONALD REST IN A PEACEFUL HIPPIE PLACE FOREVER. AMEN
Signed: great counterculture song though.. wonder if it influenced Jimmy Cliff's "Vietnam", a very underrated anti-war song...grimreaper
