Submit a poem for consideration in Cheekwood’s upcoming Graphic Arts exhibition
Deadline for entries: May 9, 2025
Poets are invited to participate in Cheekwood’s upcoming Graphic Arts Gallery exhibition, Verse and Vision. This exhibition will pair works on paper from Cheekwood’s permanent collection with a bespoke ekphrastic poem, written as a thoughtful response to a visual work of art.
Poets may submit up to three entries in response to three different prints and photographs. Selected poems will be displayed next to the artwork in the exhibition gallery and selected poets will receive complimentary admission to Cheekwood to view the exhibition in addition to a $200 honorarium.

Ol' Mondo couldn't resist, so I chose to compose a poem representing:
~ Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975), Prodigal Son, 1939, Lithograph on paper. ~
The Prodigal Son

He went his way
That fateful day
My first born
So full of scorn
Into their own
Some must roam
To find their soul
And make them whole
The years passed by
I did not pry
Or lose all hope
And despair grope
The light did burn
He might return
What e're the cost
All's not lost
From what I feared
He reappeared
I prepared a feast
All angst released
