I never ever saw the workers leaving at closing time as just never in the area at that time not like seeing people coming out of Reyrolle’s and Palmers. Those from Leslie’s I really didn’t see unless they got on the buses from Palmers.
I remember the mayhem at the foot of the bridge by the County Hotel and the Church. The number of buses from the Reyrolle bottom end and workers going to the railway station.
The number of trains that loaded and then left Hebburn station were a lot. I seem to remember it was something like 4 one way and 5 the other. That number I assume were two carriage trains. I just know that there were a lot of trains at knocking off time.
Sometimes I would walk from Palmers to Grannies on Victoria Rd West for evening meal or pick up my bike.
Pity that there are no films of the exodus from the bottom end.
I think there was one taken at the top end of all the buses on the road between the sports field and the car park.
