Liz as we were quite near to Newcastle University we had a number of pupils whose parents were overseas students. At one time we had 36 different first languages, it was impossible to have interpreters for every language so we didn't have any but buddied up children who spoke same language, it worked very well and children learn much faster adults so we had children often speaking English fluently in under two terms. You learn to adapt and be flexible in working practices to get the results that benefited everyone. We ended up with an outstanding rating from Ofsted so we must have been doing something right.
