National ID cards were proposed in Australia around 30 or 40 years ago and ""failed"" to gain support.........THEN, All States and Territorys in Australia got rid of the old paper driving licenses and went for the ""MORE MODERN"" plastic card that showed Name, Address, Date of Birth, License Number, Card Number and a Photograph. The people who do not drive but wish to utilise ""Licensed Venues"" can obtain an ""18 Plus"" card to allow the purchase of alcohol et.. BUT at least we don't have an ID card in Australia
