Caravans usually have normal commercial Van tyres.
The train weight of my car plus caravan is about 3 tonnes and if it gets to 3.5 tonnes there could be licence problems but that I think is for motor homes. The driving licence for over 3.5 tones different category I think.
In any case my outfit weight is split over 3 axles not 2.
I do not claim that EV’s cause additional road wear that info has been given in the press for some time. It’s a fact due to their weight being more than equivalent ICE cars.
The tyres fitted to EV are to cope with the additional weight and probably that the torque applied by an EV would destroy standard tyres. It’s possibly the design of the tyre carcass.
If they started to apply a sort of road tax for caravans it could have a negative effect on the holiday industry which up to last year was booming as people switched to holidays at home.
Less people going abroad so spending in U.K.
These days it’s always difficult to get a pitch unless booked well in advance. You just cannot just turn up at a site and get in, that’s long gone.
We will be giving up our caravan in say 5 years or less as the old AGE catching up to both us and our towcar.
If we were 10 to 15 years younger we would be away in our caravan the majority of the year both U.K. and abroad exploring various areas. Buy using our caravan we provide employment for a lot of people in servicing the caravan, car, site staff and local services.
In Seahouses area we frequent about 20 shops, pubs, restaurant's etc. Then there’s Alnwick or Berwick plus others.
So up our money gets dispersed over a very large area. That area is for us rural so a great help to those living there.
For us the caravan allowed us to cycle all over U.K. and quite a lot of France and a few other countries.
Both Ann and I have been “ campers”:from a very young age probably at 8 years old and that’s 75 years for me.
