Carr street was Hebburn Quay's main shopping street in the old days. That tall chimney was part of the 'C' Pit boiler house where steam was created for their winding engine that lifted and lowered the cage up & down the Shaft.
In the 1940s I remember one of the Fionda families Ice Cream Parlours was on the right before Ellison St junction.Peter Fionda ran that one.
