Durham Court Flats

I wonder why the Durham Court Flats are being emptied. Since it was mentioned recently, we've heard nothing.
Why?
I have a suspicion but could be completely wrong so will say nothing just yet

Wouldn't you think local councillors would have the common sence to inform the general public what's happening to them, unless they've been told by big brother (south shields) to say nothing.

Good afternoon Cllr Ellison,
I hope you are well.
Why I am contacting you is because of speculation about the Council telling Durham Court residents that they are going to have to move out.
Resident were also told that they will be compensated & the quicker they move the larger the amount they will receive.
This matter seems to be top secret so can you as a Hebburn Councillor tell me what is happening.
I have an idea & hope I am wrong.
Looking forward to your reply before more & more rumours start.

I asked the Shields Gazette if they know about this. They say they heard about it 4 days ago & have chased it up all week to no avail and will do a story on it when they hear anything.
Ive informed the Evening Chronicle aswell & awaiting a reply.
The Councillors auto reply was 'Out of the Office'

I saw on one of the Hebburn Facebook groups a scan of a letter that was sent to residents of Durham Court. It said that the building materials used for the flats were only guaranteed for 50 years, so it was time for demolition. However, there was no deadline for the residents to move out and obviously demolition wouldn't start until everyone was gone.

I was trying to find the scans today but couldn't. I'll keep looking and post them if I do.
