In mid January there was a Post on the board about Bin Collections & I posted 'What are we going to do with our rubbish when the quarries are all full?
Well by coincidence the News today is this headline below.
Hundreds of illegal waste tips operating in England - including 11 'super sites'

Click the Link and read how bad this problem is already in England. It will be just as bad elsewhere in the UK. All these waste tips seep chemicals from them which pollutes streams, Rivers & the underground water table.
This is another war we need to urgently fight because our Waste will be slowly poisoning our families in the future .

I can’t understand how these illegal sites just grow, surely someone must be notice loads of lorries turning up to sites and report them?

The breakdown of chemicals turning into liquid is called leachate. The gases are often burnt off via pipes in the tip. My bungalow was built on a refuse tip. At night we get movement causing the odd noisy crack. We sometimes experience strong smells such as tobacco! Our bungalow is also on a concrete raft!

Hebburn Riverside shouldn't ever be built on because the old rubbish tips are still there underneath. Think of the amount of poisonous leachate that must have leaked into the Tyne over many years.What gases could issue up through the soil aswell.

Its a hell of a problem, authorities closed over 700 last year, but there's over 500 still on the go that they know about, God knows how many new ones have popped up the authorities don't know about. Even when they close them down the tips have to be taken down, it will cost hundreds of thousands per site to clean them up.I wonder who'll pick up the bill.

That'll be us, then, Brian, the good old tax-payer, paying yet again for incompetant councils & Environment Agency, who don't do what we pay them to do!!

Closing down 700+ out of 1200 was a pretty good hit rate but its the aftermath, this is where the criminal gain act should be utilised bleed the dumpers dry.

The only way to sort this must be new Incinerators with new ways to burn the rubbish so it wont pollute the atmosphere.

The filters are available on the incinerator its the the people who won't drop at legal dumps causing the problems , increase the penalties through legislation as a lot of it will be charged as flytipping which are held at magistrates courts and they tend to invoke the lightest of penalties. Some local authorities have stopped prosecuting in some areas due to this as its costing more to prosecute than the penalties invoked. Make custodial sentences mandatory size and destroy all vehicles and equipment. Loss of freedom, equipment etc stop them functioning plus all costs of restoration of dump area is applied to the sentence. It will have an impact but the courts need to do their bit.
