Newcastle wonders!

Newcastle has had some great inventors and here are some facts!
Andrews Liver Salts got their name from St. Andrews church nearby as well as their office. Mr. Scott and a friend Mr. Turner tried to find a remedy for indigestion and they developed liver salts. Turner went on to develop Milk of Magnesia. They also discovered Delrosa rose hip syrup and kids were paid collect the hips at 3d per pound where they were processed at Wallsend and Newcastle. The firm was known as Phillips, Scott and Turner which went on to become Sterling Health. Amazing place Newcastle ! Not forgetting Ringtons Tea who developed Earl Grey and of course another great invention, Lucozade previously known as Glucozade !

Thomas Twining invented Earl Grey but Rington got a licence to make it. Twining also got Hogarth to paint his portrait to settle a tea bill. ( Cheapskate ! )

Domestos was also invented in Newcastle, and let's not forget Be-Ro (formerly Bell Royal) Flour!

AJG, Bells was started by Thomas Bell a grocer hear the central station and he wanted to call it Bells Royal Flour but after the king died Royal was a no-go so he took BE from Bells and RO from royal and hyphenated the two to get Be-Ro ! You are right ! Clever lot us Geordies

Right again AJG.! Amd thanks to Hawkes & Crayshay of Gateshead, our Central station roof set the pace for curved girders on uk station roof! Theres no end to Geordie innovation is there?!!!
