The bottom 50% of U.S. taxpayers paid an average federal income tax rate of 3.7% in 2022,and collectively accounted for 3% of all federal income taxes collected.

You can squeeze only so much out of the top 50% who are paying 97% of the tab.

The real culprit is the profligate spendthrift US Congress. They have spent years spending beyond our means and driving up the debt.
