I would say the mid to late 80s were good for both.
Early to mid 90s were also good, especially for the men until all the clay court specialists took over and dominated from about 1995 to the present. Since about 2000, Americans have been almost nonexistent. The women have always had some good representation at the FO, until about the time Serena started to tail off and then retire. Right now I'd say Coco Gauff is the only sure-fire thing. But honestly after Sabalenka, anyone can win.
