Air and Space and American History are both great and fairly unique
I’d pass on the national gallery and natural history museums. They are fine, but nothing particularly special. Art institute of Chicago is a fair bit better than the national gallery. Holocaust Museum is very powerful, but obviously not a fun vacation pass time. I haven’t tried not been to the Native American or African American museums so I can’t comment. Freer Gallery is right on the mall—the peacock room in that is really cool, and worth 15 minutes if you are walking by. National portrait gallery was kind of cool, but not good enough to see in a limited time trip.  Previous Message
National Archives, African American, Holocaust are great. The Ford Theater is cool and has a small museum as well.
