VRBO. We did.
It was really hard to get them to take it seriously at first, but eventually they did. Their offer to us was they would reimburse us for a place through one of their channels (Expedia, VRBO, and something else) up to half of the increased cost of the original booking. We ended up downsizing and staying roughly around our price before that offer was made, so we're for the most part whole. But apparently they are going to go back to the original owner and ask for proof that the unit was uninhabitable.
