Gives teams no chance to defend anything in behind.

As a consequence, teams will just bring everyone back into their own end and defend with 10 men behind the ball, allowing nothing in behind. Think about hockey offside. The puck needs to be in before them AND the defending team usually has at least 1, often times 2 defenders already in the zone. In this case, you’d have 0 defenders in the zone. It’s a classic “This will create more offense!” solution that will really create even less offense and make things even more dependent on set pieces. Previous Message As a relatively new soccer fan (10 years) who never played and a lifelong hockey fan, I always found the rule weird. Seems odd that it isn't the entire offensive player's body needing to be beyond the entire defender's body.
