I’d probably suggest skipping it all together given that timeline, but I’m the low man on Montmarte. That’s admittedly partially driven by a bad experience where my then girlfriend was accosted by one of the tricksters outside of Sacre Couer.
Tough to fit all the things to do in Paris and surrounding areas into 5-6 days, gotta sacrifice something.

So whereas single digit arrondisments have a bunch of walkable sites, Montmarte you can walk to Sacre Couer and everything else is probably a metro ride or a pretty long walk.

I've stayed in the Latin Quarter twice and the Marais once and both are super convienient and centrally located to all the major sites in Paris.
Any single digit arrondisment is going to be centrally located and in a good spot, though.
Someone will suggest staying in Montmarte, which I would advise against as a first time visitor.

Planning a trip for late August/early September and planning on 5 or 6 nights in Paris. Little overwhelming trying to figure out best area to stay, we’ll probably do many of the touristy things, but also like to explore neighborhoods and will use transit to get around.
