I was switching industries at the time, I'm not sure why I was so confident I'd not have to pay. Also this was 20 years ago.

at least in my experience, we'd send a letter to repay and if we didn't collect, send the person to collections*

leaving a job. They sent me a letter and I just tossed it. Nothing ever came of it.
Maybe one of the local barristers can add some explanation but I bet you can keep that money if you want to.

...So, when I was let go at my old job, my boss was like "you worked here almost the full fiscal year, if we get bonuses this year, you'll get the proportional share."
My severance docs specifically disqualified me from a bonus. When I inquired with HR they indicated that it came from the CEO and he was explicit the my team and I were not bonus eligible.
I just received it in my bank account...so, what happened here?
1. They paid me a bonus in error?
2. My former boss was like "fuck it" and paid it to me anyway out of the bonus pool?
3. Should I not touch it for a few days...move it? What?
