 Previous Message But I don’t think I’d want to live permanently in a place where English wasn’t the local language. I feel like that would just add too much friction and close off a lot of interaction and social channels. Yeah, I could learn enough Italian to get by, but that’s very different than really being able to communicate interact in a substantive way with people. Plus permanent residence would subject us to Euro tax rates, which are way higher than US rates and more than offset any cost of living savings. But I’d definitely be interested in long travel or getting an apartment to use as a vacation home and base to travel around Europe. One hurdle there would be pets—we’ve always had dogs and that seems like it would make extended travel impossible.  Previous Message rather than buying a place overseas (for either full or part-time living). But I absolutely do still check out real estate listings abroad from time to time.
