usually reading and maybe one assignment. 2.5-3 is nuts.
The teachers at our school said that if your kid is doing multiple hours of homework a night, to ask to the teacher about it, because it might be a sign that there's some other issue to work out.

My 6th grader is doing a minimum of 2 hours every night - some nights it's 2.5-3 but 2 is the absolute daily minimum.
