the majority of the traffic is in the southwest terminal on the other side, which is seriously cramped. you can't connect from southwest to AA/united/delta without going outside and being lucky enough to catch a shuttle bus (though walking might be faster). if you're also in terminal 1, you can't even connect between AA, delta, or united within the terminal without going back through security. oh, and parking and pickup/dropoff there is also really shitty.
