I definitely think that Missouri has more to play with than we do for football.Archived Message

They’ve had nearly 20 years of sustained success at least to varying degrees.
It has trailed off a bit for them lately, but they’re about to have their 11th 8+ win season since 2003. We’ve done it twice in that time. That magical season we had last year is pretty much their average season from the last 20 years (their average is 7.55 wins).
Think about if we consistently stacked seasons like last year for two full decades. There would be WAY more donor money flowing in.

No one is gonna tell me Missouri has more game in this space than Illinois. It just seems like they’ve got a more coherent plan of action.
One question I have is the “why”. Why doesn’t Bert use NIL to attract players. I assume it’s because of locker room issues it could create.
But here’s the thing. That’s how professional sports work. He better get the #### over it and fast.

And have the right staff to put you in position to land them
I go back to mizzou because they are close geographically and fighting to make a name for themselves in the SEC. They are able to come up with the right packages to land Burden, Nwaneri, Wingo, etc. despite playing pretty much sub .500 ball in conference. And, those are 5* talents. We just need a handful of 4*

That kid was registered for classes. Had a lease for an apartment at Illinois. Then Auburn offered him money. We declined to offer anything. Not match. Even offer.
Like, that MUST be a lesson learned for Bert. That shit will not work anymore. We’re either playing the game aggressively or we’re not trying.

But, you also need the right approach and skilled recruiters to get that talent

I mean, look, we laid out an enormous amount of money under Zook to land great talent. People want Illinois to win. It has been done before. Why do I get the feeling that there isn’t enough NIL to attract and retain high end talent?
It just feels like the money is there. It can be gotten. Combining that money with the right strategy just shouldn’t be a non-starter at a school like Illinois.

We've dropped all the way to 78th in FEI, just two spots ahead of NW. IU sitting at 91.
