Both walkable, historic areas with plenty nearby to keep you entertained. As far as I know it's safe, and should be quiet enough. 5 Points is a dope spot, there are some music venues, good restaurants and shops. You're off the tourist path in that area though, which is either a bonus or a negative depending on your interests. I've spent more time in that area in recent years as its grown, and have some friends not far from there, but I'm not as familiar with it yet as other neighborhoods. If nash replies with any differing insights, I'd defer to him.
