Previous Message I'll preface this by saying that my college roommate had a daughter pass away unexpectedly at the age of 19 last week. I'd left him a text and a voice mail telling him to reach out when he had time, because I knew he'd have a million people reach out to him. I went looking for obituary info so I could figure out when the services were. The funeral home hadn't published an obit yet, but when I googled her name and "obituary", a bunch of things popped up. Virtually every one of them was a malware laden site with a million pop ups, and the obits were ghost written either by Chat GPT, or someone had scraped the only social media mention of her passing (from what I found out later was a post from her sister on FB the previous day) then added text and commentary. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that scammers try to prey on people in times of grief and/or compassion, but the fact that there were fake obits written was a little jarring.
