I don’t think he’d instantly get a high major HC job that is better than DePaul, he’d most likely have to take a pay cut for a mid-major head coaching job first.
So I don’t think he’d turn down the chance to instantly be a P5 head coach and right in his backyard no less. And the Big East might not have Big Ten money, but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t pay more than an assistant salary. Even Providence was paying Ed Cooley $4M per year.

I'd venture to guess that he might make more money as an assistant at Illinois than a HC at Depaul once that Big Ten money comes flowing in.
Assuming Illinois has a great March run soon, he could probably land a bigger job than Depaul too.
