Sister-in-law came home from a work trip to find my older brother had dropped dead yesterday. She had talked to him the night before and he seemed fine. So we still no idea why...he had run 20+ marathons (doctors told him he actually worked out too much), but body had hard miles on it and was batting some medical issues, including being on blood thinners due to blood clots. It's anyone's guess at this point....
Lived a life of service (5 years in the Army as an EOD working his way up to E-5, 25+ years and retired as a cop), and paid the price for it. Last time we met he rehashed just some of the PTSD he was working through in therapy over Jack and Diet Pepsis, his drink of choice.
He was my idol growing up. It was crazy how we could be so similar in some aspects, yet diametrically different in others. Politically, we couldn't be more different, but we learned to respect each other. He's the person I keep front of mind when I'm about to make a broad statement about Republicans or Libertarians, (and hopefully makes me thinks twice) and I totally believe I was a better military officer for having an NCO as my sibling.
