Previous Message virtually every single predatory scheme in american history (as adjudged by courts) can be characterized as offering a product or service money. Previous Message you can choose to buy it or not. i have chosen not to buy any of these things. if people are handing the money over to EA, that's their choice. Trying to offer a product for money isn't a predatory scheme, even if that product isn't great. the consumer has a choice. Previous Message Big-time game publishing is in a rough place right now. Development budgets have skyrocketed, but game prices haven't even risen to match the rate of inflation. For example, Final Fantasy VII cost $49.99 when it was released in 1997, which would be about $96 today. Nobody's going to pay $96 for a game, so the only way to recoup some of those costs is by setting yourself up to make some money after the game is purchased. A public company like EA is forced to show ever-growing profits as part of their fiduciary duty, so they include ever-more-predatory hooks in their games to extract money from their players. Anything that's not in service to these hooks is not worth the time it takes to develop and add to the game. Madden, FIFA, and NHL have become increasingly geared toward extracting money over providing gameplay, and this won't change, because the mass of players will continue to buy the game year after year regardless, either because they want to continue pouring money into the post-release content, or simply out of habit.
