There's still skepticism around Cody's bounce back last year. He's underlying metrics weren't that great.
And we know that Jed really doesn't like locking down long term money. So if he's mediocre again the Cubs aren't on that big of a hook and they still have PCA coming.
Cody gets big money now and still has the opportunity to cash in with opt outs after each of the 1st 2 years. Even if he stays all 3 years he will only be 31 at the end of this deal.
I personally would have liked to see maybe 1 opt out but the Cubs needed another bat really bad IMO and they had money to spend.
Personally I wish they'd give the same deal to Chapman as well. Hell I'd also bring Montgomery too.
