I agree with you...but I'm curious to know what you think Archived Message

My question: What type of situation is ideal for the Cubs to pay the tax? My opinion: For the foreseeable future, the Dodgers are always going to be the Dodgers and the Braves are always going to be the Braves. Can't do anything about them (except hope for injuries). But the NL Central winner is guaranteed no worse than the No. 3 seed and home field in the Wild Card round. Therefore, the optimal time to pay the tax is a year when the NL Central is most winnable — and this appears to be that year. What's your take? Also, when you say the 2019 team with the No. 2 payroll was most disappointing: Is that simply because of the results...or the results in relation to the payroll? Previous Message The most disappointing recent Cubs team is the 2019 one, which had the #2 payroll in MLB. The 2024 MLB salary will probably come in around 5th or 6th. The Cubs are also a top 5 spender in baseball operations and development staff. Routinely ranked in the top 5 alongside the Rays, Dodgers, and Guardians for the largest baseball ops staffs. Spending hasn’t prevented the Cubs from winning, which they’ve done a lot since Tom bought the team. What sank that 2015-2020 core was the lack of internal pitching development and the career of Addison Russell falling off and plateauing of Bryant/Rizzo/Baez.
